Cuevas de Sorbas are underground caverns that cover around 50km. They are full of stalagtites, stalagmites and pillars, all studded with glittering mineral crystal formations. Among the most outstanding caves are the 8km-long Cueva del Agua (Cave of Water), which is the largest gypsum cave in Spain, and the 126m-deep Covadura cave complex.
On the outskirts of Roquetas, on the way to the Gran Plaza shopping centre is the newly opened aquarium. This state of the art, 3000 m² aquarium uses over 2 million litres of water, making it the largest aquarium in the province. The different aquatic zones are beautifully presented and range from tropical freshwater and tropical marine, to the open ocean and a 1 million litre main tank, housing numerous sharks and other marine species. There is a touch pool in the aquarium where the public are invited to stroke the wings of one of the many rays or guitar fish (they’re soft and velvety) as they are swimming around.
Oasys Mini Hollywood is a theme park and zoo set in the desert landscape of Tabernas. Formerly a film set. Many well known westerns were shot here. Watch one of the daily shoot outs. Cheer on the Sheriff and see some very rough looking locals bite the dust. There is a small museum housing camera equipment, projectors and memorabilia. As it is can be quiet hot you can enjoy a cold beer and a snack at the Saloon whilst watching a can can show. Once you have seen enough of the wild west there are several snack bars and restaurants to visit. Or take some time out and have a dip in the pool. The zoo is very worth a visit with a many interesting animals to see.

The German-Spanish Astronomical Center at Calar Alto is located in the Sierra de Los Filabres (Andalucía, Southern Spain) north of Almeria. It is operated jointly by the Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie (MPIA) in Heidelberg, Germany, and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (CSIC) in Granada/Spain. Calar Alto provides three telescopes with apertures of 1.23m, 2.2m and 3.5m to the general community. A 1.5m-telescope, also located on the mountain, is operated under the control of the Observatory of Madrid.
